HOLIDAY, Fla., (WFLA) — Another crash happened on Holiday Lake Drive in Holiday on Friday morning. Florida Highway Patrol says it happened when a driver failed to stop at a stop sign, hitting another car and a nearby garden bed.
FHP said this is the third incident in a year reported on that street. Pasco County Fire Rescue said one person was transported to the hospital.
The woman who was hit in her car said she was just on her way to take her son to school and is still in shock. She has lived in this area since 1999 and crashes like this happen far too often.
“It was very, very terrifying,” Jacqui Angeles said.
Jacqui Angeles was driving her regular route to take her son to school when she said another driver ran through the stop sign and hit them.
“I was looking for my son because he wasn’t in the car, so I ran out the car and found him on the ground,” she said. “I made sure he was okay, and then I saw the other people from the other car laying on the ground.”
She said the other car was filled with teenagers.
“It took me a while before I really kind of realized what was going on,” Angeles said. “When I initially got hit, I was just scatterbrained. I was looking around like, ‘What happened?’ But it was terrifying.”
Holiday Lake Drive is an area she said is notorious for crashes.
“This is absolutely a dangerous street, a week ago my house got ran into by a car,” she said.
Other neighbors in the area agree.
“This corner is a very bad corner,” Mark Gandelman said. “Within the last 20 years, we’ve had major accidents where people were speeding, one car flipped over.”
People who live in the neighborhood are concerned about the speeding and said more needs to be done.
“They’ve taken out the stop sign; we need speed bumps on here,” Gandelman said. “Even though they post signs and they have the new digital one, people here speed 35 to 50 m.p.h.”
Both cars were severely damaged, and Angeles said she thinks if the other driver had been going just a little bit faster, the other car would have gone through the home.
