The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning at the intersection of Mohr Road and Sheldon Road in Tampa.
At approximately 7:38 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, deputies responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. Upon arrival, they located a woman and her two children who had been struck. Deputies provided aid until Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived.
The 6-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother and 10-year-old brother were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, the family had been using the designated crosswalk to cross Sheldon Road from Mohr Road on their way to school.
Deputies determined that the driver, identified as 77-year-old Isain Ledesma, was traveling eastbound on Mohr Road and turned right onto Sheldon Road when he struck the family. Authorities confirmed Ledesma had a green light at the time of the collision.
Ledesma was also transported to the hospital and has been cited for violation of the right of way resulting in death.
“An ordinary walk to school turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a family who should have simply been starting their day together,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This is a heartbreaking reminder that every second behind the wheel carries responsibility, especially when children are walking to school. Slow down and stay alert, so no other family endures this kind of pain.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
